Cutwater Spirits began in San Diego’s Miramar district in 2016 when Ballast Point’s distilling arm, led by head distiller Yuseff Cherney with cofounder Earl Kight, spun out to build a West Coast, cocktail‑driven distillery that treats ready‑to‑drink cans like serious bar builds, distilling core spirits in house, sourcing real citrus and mixers, and dialing ABV and carbonation for balance in warm coastal climates; the brand’s location anchors its identity and helped it become a category leader in U.S. RTD cocktails, later scaling nationwide after joining Anheuser‑Busch in 2019.
